The Official Malia reunion started in 2007 with our first event at
the Troxy venue in London. The Troxy was a multi million pound
restored art deco cinema which had held many televised event prior
to the GreeceMonkey reunion in 2007. Up until this point reunions
had always been held in nightclubs, GreeceMonkey felt the reunion
was more than just a club night to moved the event to the next
level. With careful planning the event went ahead with our PA
Jodie Aysha
performing "Heartbroken" the day before it was announced in no2 in
the UK charts. We had the famous "bucking bottle" and the bar was
sponsored by WKD.
We had
some problem that night with the entrance as we had not expected to
be as busy as we were. In the end people had had a great time, we
received great feedback from the security companies and the local
police. After this event we received many phone calls and email from
people who wanted to know more about the next event even though it
was a full 53 weeks away.
We knew
we could do better and started thinking we could possible do the
event at one of London's most famous venues the Indigo2 Arena. We
initially did not think it would be possible to do as this was a
complete change in organisation and event planning. One think
remained the same we were determined to do the event without the
outside influence of event planners - we knew exactly want we
wanted. We knew if we could pull this of we would have defiantly set
the standard in tourism reunion events. We absolutely insisted all
performed must have worked in Malia for 12 weeks in the season and
that all PA performed must have at least visited Malia in the
season.
With an
ever growing list of performers we extended the Indigo2 event until
4AM. We now had a 6 hour event in London's biggest venue, with a BBC
DJ performing the live PA on the night. We had also planned the
"Malia Workers Awards" which initially was going to be a
presentation style event for the people who had been voted the
winners in the resort in the summer.
A full
10 days before the event was planned all the tickets were gone we
scrapped around and had recounts and managed to find a few more, but
it was a SELL OUT.
The
doors opened and it was quite simple the biggest event Malia had
ever scene, even though it was in the UK. This event is promoted as
a party calibration of the Malia season. See the videos to see what
we mean
GreeceMonkey had set the standard in "Reunion Events" - we had
proved it was quality and not quantity that attered. Why spend £150
on a two night reunion with people you don't know; when you
can get much more for a lot less. The Official Malia Reunion is all
about the DJs and MCs that made Malia that season not about big name
DJs and MCs that never even came.

people cant be wrong :-)
